About Us

Growing Together at Britannia Fields Playgroup

'Growing Together’ reflects Britannia Fields Playgroup and underpins everything that we do.

Britannia Fields Playgroup is open and friendly, supporting children and their parents/carers to feel secure, relaxed and welcome. We encourage a positive relationship with parents/carers to ensure that each child’s needs are met and allowing us to work together for the benefit of the child.

Caring staff aim to make all children to feel safe and happy, giving children time and attention, building positive relationships with all children.

We have high expectations of all children and strive to support their development at all times. Key workers use sound knowledge of each child in their group, along with the ‘Early Years Outcomes’, to ensure that each child is making progress in their development and is provided with suitable opportunities to enable them to build on what they know and to learn new things.

We provide a wide range of appealing, high quality play resources in safe and secure indoor and outdoor environments which support children’s learning and social skills as they play. Stimulating and enjoyable activities encourage children’s enjoyment in learning, supporting their confidence, skills and knowledge ready for the next stage in their learning.

Staff are trained to further their knowledge and skills, and we continually reflect on our provision, striving to provide the best possible care and education at all times. Good team work ensures that all staff contribute to the smooth running of the sessions, which enables us to provide the best possible experience for the children.

What will your Child Do?

Our session is all about free, child initiated play with appropriate adult interaction to enable continuous development and quality learning.  For the session children take part in ‘free play’, where they choose which toys to play with and which activities to take part in. We have a wide range of toys and equipment available, all of which supports children’s development across the Early Years Foundation Stage, including construction toys, Duplo, ‘small world’, musical instruments, play-dough, mark making, role play, and a maths area. We always go outside, so children may get muddy as they have fun with our mud kitchen, or they may get wet as they explore how water moves with our water exploration area.

During this time we also offer a ‘creative activity’, the theme is linked to topics that reflect children’s interest and/or next step of learning. We do not do the creative activity for the child, so please do not expect a work of art! Please praise your child for their achievement as they will have put effort into their creation. We do try to keep paint on the paper, but sometimes it does get onto children’s clothes as they get enthusiastic!

We offer a ‘snack’ during the morning, where children can have a drink of milk or water, selection of fruit or vegetable pieces, cheese (to help neutralise the acid on the children's teeth), bread sticks to choose from.  We encourage good hygiene, and independence in pouring and drinking from a cup as well as allowing the children to choose their own snack.

Towards the end of the session children take part in a large group activity such as listening to stories and rhymes, P.E., parachute, dancing to music, and singing,  all of which support learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
