Britannia Fields Playgroup is a SEND-friendly setting.

We are committed to meeting every child’s needs and strive to provide the best possible support. All children are regularly observed by SEND-qualified practitioners. From these observations, we plan next steps for each child and share these with parents.

Britannia Fields features a quiet, sensory-safe space for use as a break area when a child requires downtime to calm and regulate. In this area, a designated adult remains with the child, guiding them to use the sensory resources, appropriate lighting, and calming techniques. When the child is ready, they can rejoin the main room.

Each child has a personalised drawstring bag with their name on it, containing calming and sensory resources tailored to their needs. These resources may include items from home, such as a comforting object or clothing with a familiar scent (for example, a parent’s perfume), to help the child feel calm and secure.

We collaborate closely with external agencies to ensure appropriate support within our setting.

These agencies may include:

  • Early Years SEND Inclusion Team: they observe individual children, discuss needs, and provide resources and guidance to support each child’s development.

  • Speech and Language Therapists: they supply resources to help children communicate effectively with adults and peers.

  • Medical Advisors: they visit to assist with various medical needs.

Working together, we tailor support to each child’s unique needs to ensure every child has every opportunity to reach their full developmental potential.
